Roos Mega Round dedicated to White Ribbon – 3rd August
On Saturday 3rd August, Maroochydore Roos AFL will host a mega round of football at the Maroochydore Multisports Complex, all in aid of White Ribbon.
With all 6 teams at home for the last game of the home and away season (except the Colts), it is also the annual Women’s Cup round v the University of QLD. This round promotes their partnership with White Ribbon to raise awareness and funds for the prevention of domestic violence on the Sunshine Coast.
The day kicks off with the Colts v Jindalee at 10am on the main oval, where they will hopefully continue in the good form that sees them sit atop of the ladder.
At 12 noon they will be followed by the Division 4 game v UQ. This game will commemorate the passing of past player Jayden Watt, who was killed in a car accident on the way to a game in 2007. Each year the Jayden Watt medal is presented to the best player on field, as judged by the umpires in front of Jayden’s proud family.
Also at 12 noon is the Reserves men v UQ on Oval 3 who are coming off a loss to Mayne last week and will be out to make amends. At 2pm the Senior men take on UQ on the main oval and with second place locked in for the Roos, this game won’t effect their position on the ladder. At 3pm the QAFLW Development team take on UQ on oval 2 and hope to cement a top 3 place for their finals quest.
The Women’s Cup game between the Roos QAFLW and UQ will commence at 4.45pm after a short ceremony with White Ribbon representatives addressing the players, officials and crowd for the White Ribbon Oath. The winners trophy presentation by Maroochydore MP Fiona Simpson will take place at the conclusion of the game, approx. 6.30pm.
A raffle will be held and donations sought over the course of the day to be given to White Ribbon.
