ROOSults - 10 June (Postponed Round)

Firstly thanks so much to one of our Supporters, Krishna Alister, for such wonderful branding! The weekend saw all games that were washed out Round 1, replayed on Saturday. At Fishermans Rd, we saw the competition new comers, Bond Uni travel from the Gold Coast to Maroochydore for the first time. Bond were coming off their first win for the season the week before, and no doubt they would have been up and ready for the challenge. But up against one of the QFA Div 1 heavy weights, they were no match for our boys, with the Roos running out winners by 95 points. The final score 19.14-128 to 5.3-33. The Roos rested star players Daniel Dzufer, Sam McKenzie and Jack Gale while injured co captain Josh Norman is still on the side lines. On the flip side, we welcomed back Sydney Swans premiership player Paul Bevan for his first game this season. Paul his missed the first 8 games of the season while he and his wife Hailey were expecting the arrival of their second child. With the safe arrival of little Harper, and daddy duties done (just for now) it was back to the footy for 'Bevo'. And Bevo was back with force, kicking 8 for the day - 4 in the first quarter! The weekend's game also so saw the return of a couple of our big men in Jacob Simpson, and Ben Cadzow. The game played out as we expected, with the Roos dominating every quarter. Best players on the day were - Tyle Williams, Jackson Ryan continued his outstanding start to the year, Paul Bevan, Harry Wilson and young gun Jake Warren is starting to hit his straps. The only sour note for the Roos was hard nut Brodi Finn looks like he'll miss a couple with an ankle, and Ben Cadzow copped the 'old mans injury' - a calf. Hopefully both boys will be back in the mix soon. The reserves game took on the same look as the senior game. With the winless Bond Uni taking on ladder leaders in the Roos, a miss match was always on the cards. The final score, Roos 22.25-157 to 2.0-12 a commanding 145 point win. The strong depth of our club saw a host of senior experienced players running out for the reserves this week (like most other weeks). Ren Anderson had a day out kicking 9 goals, and was obviously one of our best, with Mitch Green, the McCosker brothers, Brandon Maki and Zach Carlson all joining Ren on the list of best players. One player that didn't appear on the best players list, but should have, is our reserves Coach - Dave Hulsman. As coach, Dave refuses to put himself in the best players each week, but to all those watching yesterday, he was clearly best afield. At the tender age of 40 years young, Dave only seems to be getting better. Not sure how or what he's doing, but what ever it is - keep doing it Dave! A special mention goes out to 3 of our colts players who answered the call to help out Bond Uni who were short on players. Noah Cumberland, Jai Larkins and Jordan Little all suited up for Bond so that the game could go ahead. Well done boys. With our Colts, WBSC Div 1 and QWAFL teams all having a bye this weekend, our final game to report on is our QWFA Div 1 girls. As with the boys, our girls were taking on Bond Uni at Fishermans Rd. With Bond recording 4 wins for the year and our girls with 2 wins, this game was up for grabs. The first half was certainly played that way with the score showing the Roo ladies up by 2 points at half time 2.1-13 to 1.5-11. A lapse in the 3rd quarter by our girls saw Bond kick 3 unanswered goals which gave them an 18 point lead at 3qtr time. The final qtr was a tight tussle with both teams recording goals, but unfortunately the final score line showed Bond Uni getting up by 19 points. Speaking with coach Geoff Thatcher after the game, he really felt like it was one that got away. "That lapse in the 3rd really cost our girls, and we played all over them in the last, but just couldn't convert". Continue the good work Thatch, we all know this is a development year for our girls in QWFA Div 1, and the improvement week in and week out is exceptional. Next week sees 5 of our 6 teams playing at home again, with our only away team (Thirds) playing at Pomona. On the social side, we have a Sponsors Luncheon this coming Saturday 17th June, for all corporate sponsors and player sponsors. 12.00pm start at Fishermans Rd, in the social rooms. Following that we have our reverse raffle that will be held on Sunday 25th June, again at Fishermans Rd - $2500 first prize, food, beverages and live music provided. $50.00 per ticket gets you into one of our best arvo's for the year. Hope to see you at the footy, Go Roos....
